Furious Allegri receives two‑match suspension, Roma under fire

Massimiliano Allegri, the coach of SSC Napoli, has been suspended for two competitive matches after he had an angry outburst in the closing stages of the Serie A‑match against AS Roma, after which he received a red card and the fourth official removed him from the field.
Sanction and suspension
The Italian disciplinary committee has punished ALLEGRI with a two‑match suspension. In the official statement it referred to Due giornate di squalifica, also indicated as DUE giornate di squalifica. In addition, he received a fine of ten thousand euros. An Extra investigation was launched and Napoli has appealed the sanction.
Because of the suspension Allegri will miss the competitive matches against AC Monza, scheduled for Wednesday 28 October, and against Juventus, scheduled for Sunday 1 November. Juventus is his former employer, where he previously faced them as the coach of AC Milan. His absence could limit Napoli’s tactical options.
In the match against AS Roma Leonardo Balerdi scored, but Napoli claim that there was a foul on Sam Beukema. The VAR decided not to intervene. Allegri reacted angrily, received a red card and was sent off the field by the fourth official.

Allegri’s statements and possible follow‑up
Allegri said after the match: “The fourth official called the referee over and made sure I was sent off, but I absolutely said nothing.” He added that he now has to stay on the bench, referring to a fine of 80,000 euros that he paid last season. He argued that he is punished as soon as he moves on the line.
He also pointed his finger at AS Roma and said: “Last year they gave Roma a Champions League ticket as a gift. I paid the price for that with AC Milan.” According to Corriere dello Sport those statements are still being investigated, which could lead to further disciplinary measures. The club continues to monitor the situation closely.

Napoli hopes that the appeal against the suspension will be dealt with in time. A possible extension of the sanction could further disrupt the preparation for the upcoming matches.
