Black paint scars Baresi mural outside Casa Milan weeks after repair

At dusk on a quiet Milan street, a spray can hissed as black paint smeared the captain’s armband and the Milan crest on the shorts of the Franco Baresi mural outside Casa Milan, the fresh work barely two weeks old.

According to MilanNews24, the same dark pigment also covered the European Cup Baresi holds aloft, erasing the trophy’s golden shine. Tgcom24 confirmed the cup was blacked out as well.

The artwork sits in Piazza Gino Valle and was created by street artist Luca Rosada, who works under the name Lucas Street Art. His tribute celebrates the former captain’s legacy.

Baresi, who died at the end of July aged 66, is honoured by the piece; the reference to July appears alongside the capitalised word JULY in reports, underscoring the timing of his passing.

Earlier attack and response

The mural first suffered damage on 27 September when red spray paint obscured Baresi’s face. Milan city councillor Alessandro Giungi called the act “a vile and wretched gesture” and the club launched an investigation. Rosada later recreated a larger, smiling version, unveiled on 10 October.

The legendary defender spent a 20‑year career with the Rossoneri, winning six Scudetti, three European Cups and the 1982 World Cup with Italy; his No 6 shirt was retired in 1997. He also appeared at a press conference in Beijing on 6 July 2006 to promote the Milan Junior Camp – a detail noted in the CHINA OUT report. The latest defacement has reignited outrage among Milan supporters.
