Allegri's two‑match ban threatens Napoli's Juventus clash

Massimiliano Allegri saw his Napoli tenure jeopardised by a two‑match suspension, while the club simultaneously battles a mid‑table slump and prepares for a crucial Juventus encounter. The contrast pits disciplinary fallout against a fight for points, with an appeal already lodged.
Disciplinary action and fine
The incident occurred during the eighth‑round Serie A clash with Roma at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Nápoles, which finished 3‑3. Allegri was shown a red card for making disrespectful comments towards the refereeing team.
Beyond the ban, the Serie A authorities imposed a €10,000 fine, equivalent to R$ 55.6 k. Brazilian reports highlighted that the sanction ignored a remark Allegri allegedly made nearby the press area, questioning Roma’s Champions League qualification.
Giuseppe Chinè, head of the FIGC prosecution office, may review the episode later. Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini said, "I myself did not hear the comment, but you reported it, so it must be true. However, there are statistics, testimonies and data from our matches last year. It was an unfortunate statement."
De Laurentiis defends Allegri despite Napoli sitting 10th in Serie A
Napoli's response and league context
Napoli announced an immediate appeal, with club lawyer Mattia Grassani calling the punishment "unacceptable". He added that an urgent appeal was filed and the case is likely to be judged between Thursday and Friday.
Grassani suggested that a reduced sanction could see Allegri on the touchline for the upcoming match against Juventus. The club currently sits tenth in the Serie A table with 11 points, struggling to gain momentum.
Allegri vs Roma: the FIGC Prosecutor is considering a sanction
President Aurelio De Laurentiis affirmed his intention to keep Allegri until the season’s end, despite the disciplinary cloud and irregular results. The appeal therefore represents both a legal fight and a bid to stabilise Napoli’s campaign.
