Filipe Luis explains Ansu Fati's situation before clash with Toulouse

In the locker room of the Louis II Stadium, the Brazilian coach Filipe Luis was reviewing the lineup while Monaco's players were fine‑tuning the final touches before Saturday's match against Toulouse. At Friday's press conference, the manager spoke clearly about the immediate future of the former Barcelona forward, Ansu Fati.

Expectations regarding the call-up

There is great anticipation among the club's supporters because Ansu Fati has not yet played any official match this season. The young forward suffered a calf problem during pre‑season, which has prevented him from taking part in competitive fixtures.

Filipe Luis confirmed that the squad list will be published soon, but hinted that the decision to include Fati will depend on his playing rhythm and the need for minutes in Monaco's attack.

Return in the friendly against Pisa

On October 3, Ansu Fati returned to train with his teammates and played the first half of the friendly against Pisa, a match that ended 2‑0 in favor of the Monégasque side. Luis described his performance as “a good first half”, noting that the player stayed close to Matthis Abline and the opponent’s area.

"He is very special, very talented and extremely dangerous near the opponent’s area. He is remarkably calm when making decisions, unlike other players who are more nervous. That’s why he scores so many goals and assists," the Brazilian coach quoted during the press conference.

The manager also recalled that Fati’s last official match was five months ago, so “obviously he needs minutes of play” to regain his level.

In Luis’s words, “he still needs more playing time to develop, especially to exploit spaces, but I think he will keep improving more and more.” He added that the competition for a place in the attack is “very tough now” and that the club is “very happy to have him back.”

Next Saturday, Monaco will test its offensive strength against Toulouse in the resumption of Ligue 1, while the international football press, represented by Wagner Meier and Imma Mentruit, closely follows Ansu Fati’s development.
