Ansu Fati close to his official debut with Monaco in Ligue 1

Ansu Fati, the 23‑year‑old former Barcelona forward, returned to training with his Monaco teammates last week and could feature in his first official Ligue 1 match against Toulouse this Saturday, after appearing in the October 3 friendly against Pisa, in international football.

Return to training and recovery plan

During pre‑season, Fati suffered calf problems, which forced Monaco to follow a progressive preparation plan to avoid a more serious injury. Brazilian coach Filipe Luis decided not to rush his return to the squad for the match against Lens, preferring to postpone his debut until after the international break.

Possible debut against Toulouse

The match against Toulouse, scheduled for this Saturday in Ligue 1, represents the opportunity that the Principality club has identified as a key reason for the fixture. If everything goes as planned, Fati could make his first official appearance in the 2026‑27 season.

Fati returned to the pitch on October 3, taking part in the first half of Monaco’s friendly against Pisa, which ended 2‑0 in favor of the Principality side. The goals were scored by Folarin Balogun and Mika Bireth, while Fati contributed to the creation of chances.

Filipe Luis praised the striker, saying: “He is fantastic with the ball, has many qualities and knows how to create chances easily.” He added that the player delivered “two potential assists” and that defensively he “ran a lot, gave everything.”

The coach also noted that he should try to position himself as close to the box as possible, as he sometimes drifts too far down and wastes space. According to Luis, that is the aspect that needs work because he is very dangerous near the goal.

Monaco paid €11 million to Barcelona for Fati this summer and signed him until 2030. In the previous campaign, the striker scored 12 goals for the Principality club, 11 in Ligue 1 and one in the Champions League, which justified the outright purchase.
