Vincent Kompany condemns Bayern player after dramatic 3-3 draw in Stavanger
Vincent Kompany firmly reprimanded his players after the painful 3‑3 draw of Bayern Munich visiting Viking Stavanger, calling Michael Olise's dismissal simply “Just stupid”. The Belgian coach emphasized that Bayern's own mistakes caused the loss of points.
Early goals for Viking
Bayern started dramatically in Norway. Gianni Stensness opened the scoring already in the second minute and before halftime Peter Christiansen doubled Viking's lead. The German champion seemed to turn what was a particularly difficult Champions League evening to his advantage.
Bayern's second half and Kompany's criticism
After the break, a completely different Bayern emerged from the dressing room. Harry Kane scored twice, after which Luis Díaz even put the visitors ahead in the 71st minute. It seemed the end of a spectacular comeback, until Michael Olise shuffled all the cards again.
The Frenchman collected two yellow cards in quick succession. After a foul he responded to provocations from Viking captain Zlatko Tripić by throwing the ball at his head, forcing Bayern to continue with ten men. In the final phase Herman Haugen still found the equaliser for Viking.

“That dismissal was obviously stupid. We talked about it very clearly,” Kompany replied, according to Bayern Munich’s official website. On Prime Video the Belgian coach went even further and said he had told Olise directly that Viking’s number ten would have been smarter than himself. Olise also misses the next European match against Arsenal due to his suspension.
Kompany refused to attribute the loss of points solely to one player. “It is our own fault,” he said. “We dominate, but at decisive moments we are not smart enough.” He referred to the league duel with Augsburg, in which Bayern conceded a counter‑goal after just eight seconds.

Nevertheless, Kompany emphasized that he does not doubt his players’ commitment. As long as Bayern continues to punish itself with such mistakes, even a strong second half is not enough to win matches.
