Lionel Messi inspires Leipzig after Champions League win, Jürgen Klopp promises

In the Red Bull Arena the air crackled as Brajan Gruda scored the decisive goal to make it 1-0 against PSV Eindhoven. The Champions League win sparked pride and optimism at RB Leipzig – a moment that both Lionel Messi and Jürgen Klopp influenced in a small way.

Messi Magic at Gruda's Foot

Match-winner Brajan Gruda felt the Messi magic at his foot when he struck in the light‑blue‑white shoes of the Argentine superstar. “I hoped I could gather a bit of Messi’s energy,” Gruda said with a wide grin after he scored for the first time in the Champions League in the 75th minute.

The shoes, of which only 208 pairs were produced worldwide – exactly as many international matches Messi has played – became a symbol of the victory. “The shoes are simply a dream,” Gruda emphasized after the goal.

Klopp Promise and Demichelis Pride

National team coach Jürgen Klopp had given Gruda a promise that the young attacking player had not forgotten: “Postponed is not cancelled.” Despite a recent abdominal muscle strain that kept him away from the DFB squad, Gruda remains confident that performance brings new opportunities.

Head coach Martin Demichelis was extremely proud and looked forward to the upcoming football holidays. “Now two highlights of this season lie ahead of us. We have nothing to lose, but a lot to win,” he said after the team’s first Champions League victory.

Demichelis also emphasized the importance of courage: “That’s why we must travel bravely to Munich and Madrid.” The upcoming matches against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are seen as major tests.

In defense Leipzig once again relied on Maarten Vandevoordt, whose saves and a saved hand‑free kick by former Bundesliga professional Ivan Perisic (19) secured the result. “It’s not just about playing football, but also about fighting, defending and working together as a team,” Demichelis added.

When Gruda spoke about his role in Munich, he said: “You dream of these games, you’re eager for these matches.” He hopes that the Messi energy and the Klopp promise will also help him in the upcoming top duels.
