Thuram backs Barella and Bastoni as Inter demand new mentality

Marcus Thuram says Inter must change their mentality after Saturday’s 3‑1 derby loss to Milan, supporting the calls of Nicolò Barella and Alessandro Bastoni.
Pre‑match interview in Rotterdam
The France international spoke alongside Cristian Chivu before Tuesday’s Champions League match at Feyenoord in Rotterdam, with the interview supplied by the Corriere dello Sport.
Barella and Bastoni had earlier insisted the squad’s mindset needed alteration, following Inter’s first league defeat of the season and eighth consecutive derby without a win.
Thuram replied, “I fully agree with what they said; they’re two leaders, and their words were important.”
On 25 October 2026, Thuram celebrated his team’s first Serie A goal against Fiorentina at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan.
Chivu urges Inter to stay in Champions League race before Feyenoord
He said Inter must rediscover the spirit shown in the second half of their Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk, when they prevailed despite being reduced to ten men.
Earlier, on 10 October 2026, Thuram was seen controlling the ball in a Serie A clash with Parma at the same Milan stadium.
The 29‑year‑old has become Inter’s key man with Lautaro Martínez injured, starting every game since the October international break and scoring in three consecutive league matches before the derby.
He featured alone up front on Saturday after Pio Esposito and Ange‑Yoan Bonny were sidelined by fever.
Inter and Chivu aim to win in Rotterdam for the Champions League
Thuram added he is pleased with his minutes and comfortable playing as a lone striker.
Inter have collected three points from their first three Champions League games, and Cristian Chivu estimates roughly sixteen points will be required for a top‑eight finish.
