Sergio Ramos' return to Getafe beckons: “We've been working on it for a while”
Sergio Ramos (40) is on Getafe's list for a possible return to La Liga, club president Ángel Torres confirmed recently. The former Real‑Madrid captain has been without a club for two and a half years since his departure from Monterrey and could now play in Spain again.
Club confirmation
Torres told in an interview on the Spanish radio station Tablero Deportivo that he had already had talks with Ramos’ brother and agent, René Ramos. He indicated that Getafe has six central defenders, so a new defender is not a priority, but the club keeps the option open.
Recruitment and priorities
According to Torres, the focus is currently on attracting outfield players. He said: “We have six central defenders, so it is not the highest priority, because we mainly need outfield players. But it does not have to exclude each other.” The club recently signed Dani Carvajal, making a possible reunion with Ramos possible.
Ramos has played a total of 536 matches in La Liga, of which 469 were for Real Madrid. He also played for Sevilla, Paris Saint‑Germain and the Mexican Monterrey CF, his last club. His last competitive appearance in the Spanish league was on 26 May 2024, when Sevilla at home lost to Barcelona (1‑2).

Torres indicated that a potential arrival of Ramos could be discussed again in January, should the club still want to strengthen a central defender. However, he emphasized that the defensive position is “actually well covered.”
The 40‑year‑old Spanish player remains currently without a club, after he left Monterrey at the end of 2025. A return to Getafe would give him the chance to stay close to home and play again with Carvajal, with whom he achieved many successes at Real Madrid.

Getafe keeps the door open for Ramos, while the club also explores other options, such as Jadon Sancho. The final decision depends on the further recruitment plans of manager José Bordalás.
