Ángel Torres invites José Bordalás to leave the bench

Ángel Torres, president of Getafe, has publicly opened the door to José Bordalás after the 2‑5 defeat to Lugano in the Conference League. In a pre‑match greeting at the Coliseum, Torres said the coach has a face harder than cement and that, if he doesn’t want to continue, the exit is available.

President’s response

Torres accompanied his message with the demand that Bordalás “respect the players as they respect him”. He also reiterated that “he has a face harder than cement and, if he doesn’t want to continue, the door is open”.

In the previous press conference, José Bordalás said he felt deceived because “the promises have not been fulfilled year after year”. He recalled that, since May, he had warned of a demanding season with matches every three days.

Bordalás argued that the squad is “out of balance” and that “it’s not enough for three competitions, it’s not even enough for one”. He added that the club “doesn’t have a squad for that”, emphasizing the lack of alternatives.

The president shifted the criticism to the treatment the footballers receive, noting that the coach had publicly singled out the players after conceding five goals. With that reference, Torres reiterated his invitation for the manager to leave the post if he is not willing to respect the group.

Contract and competitive consequences

With a contract renewed until June 2028, Getafe announced in June the renewal of Bordalás, a link extended only four months before the controversy. The defeat to Lugano left the team with one point out of a possible six in the Conference League group stage.

Bordalás warned that he cannot continue resting the starters because of the risk of injuries, as the bench lacks options. The upcoming schedule does not provide a break that would allow the relationship between coach and president to be repaired.

The next league commitment will be the visit to Athletic Club at San Mamés. It will be Bordalás’s first appearance after Torres’s public invitation, and in it it will be decided whether the coach accepts the glove or moderates his tone.
