QPR reject Preston's League One loan bid for Morgan

Queens Park Rangers have dismissed a transfer approach from Championship rivals Preston North End for 20‑year‑old midfielder Kieran Morgan, who was set to drop into League One on a loan basis. The French manager Julien Stephan does not see Morgan featuring in his plans at Loftus Road this season.

QPR's summer recruitment and midfield depth

Rangers finished 15th in last season's Championship and have shown promising signs this term, with away wins over Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers and a goalless home draw against Bolton Wanderers. Throughout the summer window the Hoops have already signed six new players and moved on ten permanent or loan deals; Morgan would have been an eleventh outgoing loan.

Preston's mixed fortunes

Preston North End broke their transfer record in July by signing Alfie Devine permanently, yet they remain winless from their first three games and supporters have called for Paul Heckingbottom’s dismissal after a 1‑0 defeat at Charlton Athletic.

Kieran Morgan is a product of the Tottenham Hotspur academy, where he featured over 25 times for the Under‑18 side before being released. He joined QPR on a free transfer in the summer of 2024 and has made 61 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

He has not featured at all under Stephan this season, and reports last week suggested a season‑long loan to League One side Bradford City, where he would join a midfield that includes experienced professionals such as Nick Powell and Antoni Sarcevic.

“Kieran is fantastic in terms of mentality and we trust in him a lot for the future – for now, but for the future as well because he has all the abilities to have a great career,” the Rangers boss said last December.
