Modest gain for Ajax on Europa coefficient amid Twente setback

🇳🇱 By 4AllFootball ·

Avond saw Ajax lift its Europa coefficient by a modest 0.17 point after beating FK Vojvodina, while FC Twente’s exit from the Europa League added only 0.08 point from a valueless draw, highlighting a night of both gain and setback on the coefficient table.

In this stage of the season the De coefficient list distributes only crumbs based on individual matches. Points are awarded solely for individual results and not for cumulative performances.

Ajax’s 0.17‑point addition is modest; the figure is reduced because the Netherlands must divide all points by six, reflecting the number of participating clubs.

The elimination of FC Twente from the Europa League is described as painful. The Tukkers, however, retain a safety net through a place in the Conference League.

The EL draw gave FC Twente only 0.08 point on the coefficient list, underscoring the limited impact of a standoff.

Officials stress that the summer must show countries preventing early exits. Clubs reaching the competitive phase earn double points compared with the qualifying rounds and can also collect ranking bonuses.

FC Twente now awaits a Conference League third‑qualifying round against Slovak side DAC 1904, while Ajax continues its campaign in the same competition against Irish club Shelbourne.

This season the Netherlands fights for European tickets for 2028/29, currently sitting eighth in the ranking. The Eredivisie trails Portugal and Belgium and sits behind Turkey.

Representatives of Portugal, Benfica, made progress in the EL and Sporting Braga in the ECL. Belgium celebrated the EL victory of RSC Anderlecht and the ECL success of AA Gent after a penalty shoot‑out with Cherkasy. Turkey’s Istanbul Basaksehir suffered a 3‑1 defeat to Inter Turku after a 1‑1 draw, dropping out in August.

The allocation for 2027/28 already determines one Champions League place, a Champions League qualification place, a Europa League place, a second‑round Europa League slot and a second‑qualifying‑round Conference League place. Should the Eredivisie remain eighth, the 2028 cup winner must enter the Europa League play‑offs.
