Marseille’s injury woes could hand Troyes a chance at revival

Bruno Genesio’s forced midfield reshuffle ahead of the Sunday 20:45 clash at Stade de l’Aube could decide whether Olympique de Marseille break their four‑game losing streak against Troyes, who sit 16th with four points after five Ligue 1 matches this season.

Troyes have struggled since their promotion, occupying 16th place after five games with just four points. Their campaign began with a 0‑0 draw against Paris FC followed by a 2‑1 win over Lorient, but they then suffered defeats of 2‑6 to Strasbourg, 2‑0 to Lille and 2‑0 to Angers. The ESTAC have conceded eleven goals in five matches and have failed to score in their two most recent outings.

Troyes aim to revive fortunes

Stéphane Dumont’s side will look to seize the early minutes at the Stade de l’Aube to unsettle the visitors. A compact defensive shape is essential if they are to avoid repeating the errors that led to the heavy loss at Strasbourg. Securing a second win of the season would lift them out of the relegation zone and restore confidence.

Marseille under pressure

Olympique de Marseille sit 17th with three points after five Ligue 1 fixtures, having opened the campaign with a 4‑0 victory over Strasbourg before four straight defeats. The losses came against Monaco (2‑0), Paris FC (3‑2), Rennes (1‑0) and Paris Saint‑Germain (2‑1), leaving Bruno Genesio with limited margin for error. The Phocéens are desperate for their second win to begin a climb up the table.

Historical edge for Marseille

In the last twenty meetings between the two clubs, Olympique de Marseille have emerged victorious eleven times, while Troyes have won three and the remaining six matches ended in draws. This record gives Les Phocéens a psychological advantage ahead of the encounter at the Stade de l’Aube.

Marseille head into the match with several key players unavailable. Derek Cornelius, Amine Gouiri and Himad Abdelli all missed the international break through injury, and Timothy Weah serves a suspension for the Sunday fixture. Genesio may therefore be forced to alter his starting eleven, limiting options in midfield and attack.

A Troyes victory would see them climb out of the red zone, potentially moving several places up the Ligue 1 table. Conversely, a win for Olympique de Marseille would provide the momentum needed to escape the bottom‑two and could signal the start of a revival for the Phocéens.
