Kompany's hospital stay forces Bayern to rethink weeks ahead
Vincent Kompany, the 40‑year‑old Bayern Munich head coach, fainted during a training activity on Friday and was rushed to hospital for examinations. Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the coach remains in hospital and will be absent for several weeks. The club will have to manage without him as the Bundesliga campaign continues.
Health crisis at training
Kompany collapsed at the Bayern training centre on Friday and required immediate medical attention. He was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital, where doctors have kept him for further tests. Max Eberl said the coach is stable but will stay in hospital until all examinations are completed.
The first examinations have produced some results, but additional tests are needed to pinpoint the cause and estimate the recovery period. Eberl added that Kompany is in excellent hands and the club will support him emotionally throughout the process.
At a press conference on Saturday, Eberl reassured supporters that health is the priority, not football. He stressed that the absence will be measured in weeks rather than days and wished Kompany a swift recovery.

Impact on Bayern's campaign
The incident occurred while Kompany was overseeing the under‑23 squad, which is coached by former defender Dante. Local reports noted the youth match against DJK Vilzing, scheduled for Saturday, was postponed as a result.
Prior to the fainting, Kompany had been recovering from a viral infection that affected his hip, limiting his ability to climb stairs or stand for long periods. He had previously needed to sit on a sofa during half‑time of Bayern’s win over RB Leipzig and missed training on Monday and Tuesday before the Champions League clash with Arsenal.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks will take charge of the first team while Kompany recuperates. Bayern’s next fixture is Sunday at 13:30 Brasília time against Freiburg in the Bundesliga.

At present Bayern Munich lead the league on 14 points, level with Borussia Dortmund but ahead on goal difference. The team will aim to preserve its position as it awaits further updates on Kompany’s health.
