Bayern Múnich face weeks without Kompany after sudden collapse
Vincent Kompany, the 40‑year‑old head coach of Bayern Múnich, suffered a sudden collapse on Friday afternoon inside the club’s training complex. He was rushed to hospital, remains stable and conscious, and club officials confirm he will be unavailable for several weeks.
Medical update
The 40‑year‑old Belgian remains under medical observation after the surprise fainting episode. He is described as stable and fully aware, but the club stresses that his health takes precedence over any timetable for a return.
Director of sport Max Eberl, aged 53, said the club will not set a deadline, adding that “we will not talk about days, but about weeks; that must be clear to everyone”. He underlined that the priority is a full recovery before any thoughts of returning to the bench.
Club response
“Primero, la buena noticia: está estable. Habló anoche, también con su esposa. No fue un momento agradable para ninguno de nosotros; se desmayó y lo llevaron al hospital, donde permanecerá unos días más. Esto demuestra que el futbol no es lo más importante en la vida”, Eberl stated.
With Kompany sidelined, assistant Aaron Danks, 43, will take charge of the first‑team for the upcoming Bundesliga fixtures and continental commitments while the medical picture is clarified.
Emergency services, including a helicopter, responded to the club’s premises and transferred Kompany by ambulance to a Munich hospital. The collapse occurred while he was observing the Bayern Múnich Sub‑23 training session.
The club faces a period of uncertainty ahead of its Bundesliga clash with Freiburg, but officials insist the focus remains on uncovering the cause of the incident and ensuring Kompany’s full recovery before any return.
