Bayern travel to Freiburg with reduced squad as Kompany and stars miss

FC Bayern Munich travel to Freiburg on Sunday with a reduced squad, confirming the loss of head coach Vincent Kompany and a string of key players. Co‑coach Aaron Danks announced the additional absences on Saturday, leaving the German Rekordmeister shorthanded for the trip.

Vincent Kompany suffered a collapse on Thursday and spent several days in the Krankenhaus, meaning he will miss weeks of action for the club. The Ausfall list grew on Saturday when Aaron Danks confirmed another missing player, stressing that only a "Rumpfkader" is available.

Player absences and replacements

In Breisgau, the Bayern roster will also be without Joshua Kimmich, Luis Diaz, Jamal Musiala and Min‑Jae Kim. Kim pulled a muscle strain in the Champions League clash against Arsenal on Wednesday and was substituted at half‑time.

The central‑defence partnership is expected to consist of Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah for the match.

Kimmich remains out following the death of his father. "He is still with his family and going through a difficult time. He gets all the time he needs," Danks said.

Midfield could see Aleksandar Pavlovic and Tom Bischof start, as they did against the Gunners.

Davis, who was subbed on and off against Arsenal, is nursing a muscle‑bundle tear that will keep him sidelined for four to six weeks.

Musiala continues his rehabilitation after a muscle‑fibre tear, with a possible comeback by the end of October.

Offensive hopes now rest on Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry, Ismael Saibari and Lennart Karl, while left‑back Nathaniel Brown could also feature.

After the Freiburg fixture, Bayern face 1. FC Magdeburg in the DFB‑Pokal on Wednesday, before a high‑profile clash with Borussia Dortmund the following Saturday.
