Cardiac arrest after hard foul shakes CD Tenerife

A foul cardiac arrest hit the 30‑year‑old striker Jesús de Miguel when he went to ground in stoppage time of the CD Tenerife versus FC Andorra match. The clinic of Spanish footballers confirmed that he was taken to hospital after the hard collision.

A picture from the Alliance showed CD Tenerife concerned about Jesús de Miguel. The striker lay in hospital after the heavy collision, his condition deteriorated.

Cardiac arrest and medical situation

The incident occurred when De Miguel, at high speed behind the midfield line, was fouled by the sprinting FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono. The keeper received an immediate red card for the overly hard action. The players of both teams looked shocked, and the referee stopped the match at a 2‑2 score.

Rescue workers had to revive the footballer on the way to the hospital. In an initial statement it was said that De Miguel was breathing on his own but remained unconscious.

CD Tenerife initially stated that his condition was serious but stable. In the morning the club reported that his neurological condition had worsened.

FC Andorra expressed its regret and sent well‑wishes to De Miguel and his family. Later it became known that the 30‑year‑old striker died the morning after the incident.

The club released an official communiqué in which it spoke of “immeasurable pain” and “no comforting words”. The family thanked for the support and asked for privacy.

Referee Manuel Ángel Pérez Hernández stopped the match at 2‑2 and Owono faces a lengthy suspension. According to a French report, De Miguel was heavily tackled on Monday evening by the namesake Equatorial Guinean goalkeeper Jesús Owono.

He lost consciousness, was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria and was immediately resuscitated after a cardiac arrest. On Tuesday morning, 3 November 2026 at 08:00, the club communiqué announced the player's death. Before his move to Tenerife in mid‑2025, De Miguel had played for six clubs and scored 11 goals in 36 matches.
