BREAKING: Palace deal for Augsburg defender Chrislain Matsima collapses

Augsburg defender Chrislain Matsima's proposed move to Crystal Palace has collapsed after the clubs could not agree on the final contractual details of a package reported to be worth up to €30 million. Florian Plettenberg reported the breakdown, confirming that the transfer will not proceed.
The two sides failed to reach an agreement on the structure of payments and performance‑related bonuses, despite discussing a total package of as much as €30 million. This impasse left both parties unable to finalise the deal.
Palace had initially reached personal terms with Matsima and subsequently raised an earlier €20 million bid to €25 million in an effort to secure the defender. Even with the increased offer, the English club could not bridge the remaining contractual gaps.
Augsburg remained determined to secure the major profit it had long anticipated for the defender, having purchased him permanently from Monaco for approximately €5 million. The club’s ambition was to capitalise on the significant increase in his market value.
Matsima, who signed a contract extension through 2030, has developed into one of Augsburg’s most important defensive players. His long‑term deal reflects the club’s confidence in his abilities.
A serious thigh injury in January interrupted his progress, but he returned during the closing stages of last season. Matsima will remain in the Bundesliga for now, rejoin Augsburg’s first‑team squad and travel with the side to their training camp on Saturday. Sky noted that he behaved professionally throughout the negotiations.
