How the Viessmann deal strengthens FC Bayern's finances

How the Viessmann deal strengthens FC Bayern's finances

Around €250 million flow in with the entry of the Viessmann Generations Group into Munich, making FC Bayern the newest shareholder. The record champion thereby sells its last available shares, even though it is financially well positioned to secure its future. The capital increase is intended to significantly strengthen the equity base.

Financial Key Figures

For the capital increase, the Viessmann family receives just under 6.7 percent of the shares in FC Bayern München AG. This reaches the final permissible quota of more than 30 percent external holdings, as the articles of association limit external participation to this share. Prior to this step, Adidas, Audi and Allianz were already shareholders.

"This step strengthens the ownership structure of FC Bayern München AG," explained President Herbert Hainer. He also emphasized that the improved equity base expands the scope for action in a time of permanent change. The sports report highlighted the strategic importance for the club.

Strategic Significance

Max Viessmann is to join the supervisory board of FC Bayern München AG, increasing the body from nine to ten members. The Viessmann chief is already a member of the club's advisory board. Thus the group gains direct influence over the supervision.

Unlike many other clubs, for FC Bayern it is not about plugging holes. In 2002 Adidas joined to secure financing of the Allianz Arena, later followed by Audi and Allianz. The Bavarian club uses the capital increase to solidify its market position. Today the deal is meant to increase flexibility, not out of necessity.

In an interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung, Hainer emphasized that the millions will initially go onto the famous FC Bayern "fixed-term account". A transfer frenzy is not planned for now. Instead, the club is building reserves for a time when transfer fees, salaries and agent fees continue to rise.

Rising costs in international top‑level football demand financial firepower to remain among the European elite. The Viessmann deal is intended to strengthen FC Bayern's economic resilience, without sending a signal to Borussia Dortmund or Bayer Leverkusen. It helps prevent the gap to financially strong Premier League clubs and state‑backed projects such as Manchester City from widening further.
