Asllani's summer gamble: Barcelona dream versus Leipzig fallback
Fisnik Asllani, the Hoffenheim striker, is narrowing his future to two options – a hoped‑for move to Barcelona and a Plan B with RB Leipzig – as he prepares to leave the German Bundesliga club this summer, with a €29 million release clause on his contract.
Despite attracting widespread interest across Europe, Asllani has trimmed his list to two clubs, Barcelona and RB Leipzig, according to reports in Germany. He is expected to leave Hoffenheim this summer.
Barcelona have monitored Asllani’s development for several months and opened initial enquiries with his representatives earlier this summer to gauge his contract situation and willingness to move.
The Catalan club knows his release clause stands at €29 million, while Hoffenheim are believed to be open to negotiating a lower fee if performance‑related bonuses are included.
The Kosovo international has repeatedly voiced admiration for Barça and has hinted that playing at the Spotify Camp Nou would fulfil a lifelong dream. Barcelona, the La Liga champions, are focused on bolstering their attack.
Yet Barcelona’s immediate priority is securing a marquee centre‑forward, with Julian Alvarez currently topping their shortlist, and any decision on a second striker hinges on Ferran Torres’ future.
Barcelona maintain they have received no official approach from PSG, while uncertainty surrounding Ferran’s situation means a departure later this summer cannot be ruled out.
Asllani now sees RB Leipzig as his Plan B and has begun talks with the German club, which he regards as an ideal environment to continue his development while remaining in the Bundesliga.
He has ruled out a move to Borussia Dortmund, believing Leipzig offers a more attractive sporting pathway and the possibility of a reasonable release clause in any future contract.
Barcelona’s final decision will also depend on developments within their academy, where Hamza Abdelkarim is seen as an exciting option for the No. 9 role.
For now Asllani continues to wait, hoping the Barcelona opportunity materialises; if not, Leipzig appears ready to provide the next chapter of his career.
