€60 million fee could open doors for Ajax’s next stars, says Verweij
A €60 million price tag on Mika Godts’ move to Paris Saint‑Germain could free up substantial funds for the Amsterdammers, according to Ajax‑watcher Mike Verweij, who says the Dutch side are asking around that amount and see it as a catalyst for further signings.
Verweij notes that the roughly €60 million fee would give technical director Jordi Cruijff the budget to execute immediate top‑level acquisitions for the club. Such spending could reshape the squad ahead of the upcoming season.
“Normally the transfer of Godts goes through, but then Ajax still has sixteen million to spend,” Verweij begins on the Kick‑off podcast, adding that the surplus “opens the door for the arrival of Edson Álvarez and Noa Lang.”
Ajax fans demand higher PSG bid for Godts, name Lang as successor
Ajax have long expressed interest in Mexican midfielder Edson Álvarez, hoping to bring him back from the relegated West Ham United. The midfielder is currently with West Ham United, who were relegated last season.
Earlier in the week VoetbalPrimeur reported Ajax’s pursuit of 27‑year‑old winger Noa Lang, with mutual interest confirmed despite Napoli’s reluctance to release the player. Lang’s contract situation remains complex, with Napoli reportedly unwilling to let him leave without a substantial offer.
Ajax’s pursuit of Noa Lang hinges on Mika Godts’ PSG exit
Verweij concludes that “there will really be a lot of investment,” praising Ajax’s transfer activity as Champions League‑level while the team currently competes at Conference League level, and asserting the club is going “all‑in” for the title. He believes this strategy could elevate Ajax from Conference League contenders to title challengers. The club’s current squad is considered capable of challenging for the domestic title.
