£3m coup: Wrexham target Championship captain Ben Whiteman

£3million has been agreed for Wrexham to sign Preston captain Ben Whiteman, the midfielder receiving permission to undergo a medical ahead of his move to the Welsh club. The deal marks the club’s second summer signing as they reinforce their squad.

Heckingbottom said on BBC Radio Lancashire after a pre‑season friendly, “Ben told me, told Peter he’s played his last game for the club. He’s trying to force a move, which is an issue for me, for the players.” He added that the priority now is the players who remain and that owner Craig Hemmings and Peter Ridsdale would also be concerned about the wage implications.
