Manchester United eye Juventus midfielder as Aston Villa joins race
Manchester United are showing interest in this Serie A midfielder, and the question is what will he bring to Old Trafford? The Red Devils have been linked with the Dutch talent as the summer window opens.
Calciomercato reported that Manchester United are actively pursuing Juventus midfielder Teun Koopmeiners this summer. It has also been mentioned that the Red Devils would have to rival Aston Villa in the race to sign the Dutch talent.
Koopmeiners enjoyed a solid campaign in Italian football, playing 45 matches for Juve last season. He netted two goals and recorded one assist across multiple competitions, establishing himself as one of the most reliable central midfielders in Serie A.
The 28‑year‑old’s contract with the Turin club runs out in the summer of 2029, a detail that could make it difficult for Manchester United to acquire him cheaply later in the year. This long‑term deal adds urgency to the Red Devils’ pursuit.
The Dutch midfielder is a good tackler who senses danger well, making crucial interceptions in the middle of the park. He also clears his lines when needed, distributes the ball accurately, and can chip in with occasional goals and assists.
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Koopmeiners can also operate as a centre‑back or in a number ten role if required. However, there are question marks over whether he can adapt to the physical demands and high intensity of Premier League football.
If signed, he would bring more quality and depth to Michael Carrick’s midfield department at Manchester United. At 28, he is in his prime and could serve as a suitable replacement for Casemiro, challenging for regular first‑team football at Old Trafford next season.
Koopmeiners also featured for the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup 2026, scoring the team’s first penalty in the round‑of‑32 shoot‑out against Morocco on 29 June 2026 in Guadalupe, Mexico.
