Romano says Ajax is well informed as Álvarez chase heats up

At 16:11 today, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano posted on X that Ajax are actively exploring ways to bring 28‑year‑old Mexican midfielder Edson Álvarez back to Amsterdam. The update follows early‑week the Dutch champions have begun formal inquiries.

Romano described Ajax as ‘well informed’ about the situation and noted that a clear rival is waiting on the coast. That rival, he suggested, could complicate the Dutch side’s pursuit.

He also wrote that Álvarez is expected to leave West Ham United. The Mexican’s departure would open a window for interested clubs.

According to Romano, Real Sociedad is Ajax’s primary competitor for the midfielder’s signature. Initial discussions between West Ham United and the La Liga club have already begun.

Dutch reports indicate that Jordi Cruijff is examining structures to acquire 50 percent of Álvarez’s transfer rights, with a loan deal also on the table. Such arrangements could reduce the immediate financial outlay for the Amsterdam side.
