Charlton Athletic bolster defence with Ashleigh Neville signing

Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of 33‑year‑old defender Ashleigh Neville on a permanent deal, announced by an official club press release from The Addicks this afternoon. The former Leicester City defender arrives from a short spell with the Foxes, adding experience to the Charlton Women’s squad.

WSL Full‑Time confirmed the move after receiving the club’s statement, confirming Neville’s 33‑year‑old status and her permanent transfer to Charlton Athletic.

Neville had joined Leicester City, known as the Foxes, in January and recorded 13 appearances across all competitions before the club’s relegation from the East Midlands side in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Prior to her stint in the East Midlands, she spent eight and a half years at Tottenham Hotspur, where she helped secure a Barclays WSL2 promotion and reached the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final, regularly featuring among the Spurs’ top performers despite missing an England call‑up.

After joining Charlton Athletic, Neville said, “I’m really happy. It’s an exciting journey for myself and the club, so really happy to be here. I think I know what Karen [Hills] is about and vice versa [from working together at Spurs]; she knows what I bring. I think I know how good this pre‑season’s going to be and what Karen brings to the on and off of the pitch. I’m really looking forward to working with her again. I’m hoping I can bring experience from the WSL and being within that league for a long time. I’m hoping to bring things on and off the pitch with the way I play, and collectively working with the team off the pitch to bring the team together and see what we can do on the pitch.”

Neville becomes Charlton Athletic’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window, and she expressed a desire to bring her WSL experience to the club both on and off the pitch, aiming to help unite the squad and improve performances.
