Roma’s Giallorossi chase after Xabi Alonso sidelines Garnacho
Chelsea’s new manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho will not feature in the Blues’ squad next season, leaving the 2004‑born talent out of his plans and prompting Serie A side Roma, the Giallorossi, to intensify their pursuit.
During his presentation press conference, the Spanish coach said, “Several clubs are interested in him,” confirming that multiple suitors are monitoring the Argentine’s future. Among those, Roma is widely recognised as a leading candidate.
The Giallorossi have set their sights on the former Manchester United winger to bolster the attacking line of Gian Piero Gasperini’s side. Roma believes his pace and creativity would complement their forward options.
However, the Blues’ demands are described as prohibitive, complicating the Roman club’s efforts. Roma is working to close the gap by proposing a loan with a conditional obligation, a structure that will require close monitoring. The deal remains under negotiation.
Alonso added, “I hope this story ends well for everyone,” effectively closing the door on any chance of Garnacho returning to Chelsea. His comments underline the definitive nature of the decision.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the English club remains confident that other teams will meet their terms, while the Argentine himself would like to move to the capital. For the transfer to materialise, an agreement on the financial conditions is still required.
