Roma eye Moreira after World Cup as €40m price tag looms

🇮🇹

AS Roma are poised to reopen talks for Strasbourg left‑back Diego Moreira after his World Cup display, with the French side having initially demanded €40 million – a fee Roma deem beyond reach. The 2004‑born player, who impressed for Belgium, could become a key target as the Giallorossi look to strengthen their flanks.

Celik’s contract renewal will be confirmed in the coming days, but Roma still need to raise the quality on the flanks. The club therefore turned its attention to the left side, where depth is limited.

Wesley remains the most reliable winger for Roma, according to recent assessments. Behind him, Rensch and Angelino have struggled, with Angelino’s season hampered by physical problems that kept him out for almost the entire campaign.

Diego Moreira, born in 2004, caught attention at the World Cup while representing Belgium. Garcia selected him for the match against Senegal and he played a pivotal role in the extra‑time comeback.

Strasbourg initially set a €40 million price tag for Moreira, a sum that no club is expected to meet. Roma may return to negotiations after the tournament, aiming for a more modest fee.

In the previous season, the 2004‑born left‑back recorded five goals and nine assists across 2,932 minutes of play. These figures underline his offensive contribution from a defensive position.

If Roma secure Moreira, they would add a youthful, attack‑oriented option to the left flank, potentially alleviating the pressure on Wesley and the injured wingers. For Strasbourg, a reduced transfer fee would help balance their finances after a season where the player’s impact was limited by his recent move.
