Fenerbahçe’s bid for Ollie Watkins: a bold move to fill Villa’s void

🇬🇧

Fenerbahçe are targeting Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins to plug a shortage of proven Premier League firepower, after the 30‑year‑old netted 23 goals in all competitions, including 16 in the league, this season. The Turkish giants have formally approached Villa with a concrete enquiry ahead of a possible summer transfer.

Fenerbahçe want a statement signing to shake up European football, not merely to add depth. They aim to secure an elite, proven Premier League goalscorer to lead their attack.

Villa’s senior officials have told the Super Lig side that every player carries a price tag. They would consider a sale if a monster bid is presented, though nothing has been confirmed yet.

Watkins, currently 30, is on international duty in North America and has refused to be distracted. Sources close to the striker say his focus remains on winning silverware with England, and no personal terms will be discussed until the tournament ends.

Watkins is under contract with Aston Villa until June 2028, giving the Midlands club total control over any move. Villa’s hierarchy insists that selling him for less than £60 million would be madness.

Losing Watkins would be a massive blow for manager Unai Emery, who needs to replace roughly 20 guaranteed goals a season. With a demanding continental campaign ahead, Emery is expected to demand board assurances and block any unexpected approach before the new season begins.

The next weeks will determine whether Fenerbahçe’s bid materialises, as Villa awaits a monster offer while Watkins remains focused on the England camp in Kansas City.
