Fabrizio Romano: Rangers Reach agreement for 'very quick' Yokota

Rangers opened the new season with a 1‑1 draw against Dundee United, leaving manager Derek McInnes eager to plug the attacking gap left by the departure of several forwards. With eight new faces already arriving, the club identified the need for a pace‑driven winger to stretch defences, and Daisuke Yokota fits that profile.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Rangers have reached an agreement with Hannover to sign Yokota for €3.3 million plus €700,000 in add‑ons, bringing the total value to €4 million – roughly £3.4 million. The deal was reported via Reuters and marks the latest addition in the Gers' busy summer transfer window.

Hannover sporting director Ralf Becker praised Yokota’s previous season, stating, "Daisuke had a strong first season and scored some crucial goals for the team. That's why it was clear to us very early on that we wanted to exercise the option to sign him to a permanent contract. We're thrilled to have secured a player of such high calibre."

Former Gent manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck added, "He's a small guy, but very quick. He's good on the ball, has good vision and can play in several positions, and is a very intelligent player."

McInnes confirmed that Yokota is now set to arrive, while the club also keeps an eye on AEK Athens defender James Penrice as part of its broader recruitment plan. The signing will further diversify the squad’s options on the flanks.
