Arsenal eye Rashford to restore width as Fenerbahce looms

Arsenal have identified a clear need for a natural wide attacker after focusing on Vinícius Júnior, and are targeting England winger Marcus Rashford, 28, for a £40 million fee as Manchester United prepare to let the Premier League star depart, with Turkish giants Fenerbahce also joining the race.

Arsenal’s pursuit reflects a desire to add width and goal‑scoring options to the Gunners’ attack. Manager Mikel Arteta has shown interest in a new winger despite his current focus on Vinícius Júnior, and sees Rashford as a fit for the Emirates Stadium’s style of play.

Manchester United have indicated they will not reintegrate Rashford into Michael Carrick’s squad after his World Cup break, ruling out a return to the club. The Red Devils have also excluded moves to Manchester City or Liverpool, leaving the 28‑year‑old available for a £40 million fee.

During his loan at Barcelona, Rashford scored 14 goals and supplied 10 assists, helping the Spanish side retain the La Liga title and progress deep into the Champions League. Barcelona boss Hansi Flick praised the player but the club ultimately declined to sign him, citing the recent £70 million acquisition of England teammate Anthony Gordon.

Turkish giants Fenerbahce have entered the race, eager to secure Rashford to help them challenge rivals Galatasaray next season. Their interest adds another layer of competition for the £40 million price tag.

Former United teammates Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand and David Seaman have recommended the move to Arsenal. Ferdinand said, “I would take Rashford. For £40m, I’m sweeping Rashford off his feet.” Scholes added, “That would be a great move for both parties. I think Arsenal would be a great move for him and the club.”

With the £40 million fee in place, Arsenal must negotiate terms while navigating competition from Fenerbahce and respecting the clause that excludes Manchester City and Liverpool. The next steps involve formal talks between the clubs, and any agreement will hinge on meeting Manchester United’s financial and contractual conditions.
