Coventry eye record‑breaking £30m swoop for Ghana’s Caleb Yirenkyi

Coventry City are poised to shatter the Danish Superliga transfer record as they move to sign 20‑year‑old Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi, agreeing a £27 million fee plus £3 million in bonuses, with a mandatory medical later on Thursday in England.

The midfielder has already agreed personal terms with the Premier League returnees and travelled to England to finalise the paperwork. His agent confirmed the agreement was reached earlier this week.

Coventry have scheduled the compulsory medical examination for Thursday, after which Yirenkyi will sign the lucrative contract. The club expects the medical to clear any issues before the contract is inked.

The English side will remit £27 million to FC Nordsjaelland, with an additional £3 million in performance‑related bonuses. This payment will set a new benchmark as the most expensive transfer ever to leave Denmark.

The fee surpasses the previous Danish record set by former teammate Ernest Nuamah, who transferred to RWD Moleenbeek for £25 million. Nuamah’s move had stood as the highest outbound fee until now.

Ibrahim Osman completed a £19.5 million transfer to Brighton, placing him among the league’s top‑ten exits. Kamaldeen Sulemana moved to Stade Rennais for £17 million, also featuring in the top‑ten list.

All four Ghanaian internationals are graduates of the Right to Dream Academy and were initially signed from FC Nordsjaelland, highlighting the Danish club’s role as a development hub. Their successive moves underscore the academy’s growing influence on European transfers.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Mohammed Kudus likewise progressed through the Right to Dream system before breaking into the Premier League. Kudus’ success further validates the academy’s reputation for producing top‑level talent.
