Arteta's endorsement fuels Christian Norgaard's move to Everton

Everton have completed a £7 million signing of Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard from Arsenal, with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta publicly encouraging the move to Goodison Park. The 32‑year‑old leaves north London after a single season at the Emirates, having signed a two‑year deal in the summer.

Everton’s acquisition addresses a need for midfield depth as the club finalises its summer business, becoming its fourth signing after Hayden Hackney, Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl. Adding a player with Premier League experience aligns with the Toffees’ strategy to broaden their squad options.

Norgaard arrived at Arsenal last summer from Brentford in an initial £10 million deal. The Dane had previously captained Brentford before making the step up to the Premier League with the London club.

During his year in London, he was not a regular starter but made 20 appearances across all competitions, including seven Premier League matches, as Arsenal secured the title. He therefore left the Gunners as a Premier League champion.

Speaking on his unveiling, Norgaard recalled Arteta’s words: “I spoke to him quite a lot about the potential move at the time and he had only positive things to say about Everton and also David Moyes.” The former Arsenal boss highlighted his own experience as an Everton player.

The Dane expressed his excitement: “It feels amazing. I’m so, so happy and pleased to have joined Everton… I needed a change and a bigger part on the football side of it.” He added that hearing about the project from David Moyes intrigued him.

Reflecting on his season at the Emirates, Norgaard said the training environment helped him improve: “I think I’m definitely a better player. Training every day with some of the best players in the world and experiencing what it takes to win a title has made a big impact.” He also mentioned gaining Champions League experience.
