Yamal shatters Mbappé record as Barcelona press on in Champions League

Barcelona returned to the field on Tuesday (3) at Camp Nou to face Aston Villa in the fourth round of the Champions League, and they secured a 3‑0 victory.

Raphinha started for the hosts while João Gomes started for Villa, and both were called up by Carlo Ancelotti for the Brazil national team for the November FIFA Date.

Gabriel Jesus and Alysson began on the bench and each entered the match in the second half.

The first goal arrived after seven minutes when Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki’s goal kick was mis‑controlled by João Gomes, the ball finding Lamine Yamal who slotted it home.

Yamal’s strike took his Champions League tally to fourteen goals before his twentieth birthday, overtaking Kylian Mbappé’s previous record of thirteen, and he received a yellow card for a foul on Ian Maatsen shortly afterwards.

Anthony Gordon’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

Johan Manzambi missed a good chance inside the box.

In the second half Raphinha added his first of two goals from a move assisted by Fermín, the strike deflecting before finding the net.

He completed his brace with a second goal after a precise cross from João Cancelo following the Portuguese’s individual duel on the flank.

Barcelona kept most of the possession and defended with a high, compact line.
