West Ham set to offload Magassa, Alvarez and Cornet

West Ham United are set to launch a January clear‑out as manager Nuno Espírito Santo seeks to reshape the squad and shore up the club’s finances. Reports suggest that Soungoutou Magassa, Edson Alvarez and Maxwel Cornet could all depart the London Stadium during the winter window.

According to reports from Claret & Hugh, the Hammers are weighing offers for the trio in order to free up wage‑bill space. The January deadline provides a chance to bring in new signings without breaching financial limits. Nuno Espírito Santo has signalled that any sale must also aid further recruitment. Maintaining promotion ambitions remains central to the club’s strategy, making the timing of any exits crucial.

Magassa and Alvarez face uncertain futures

Soungoutou Magassa has struggled to cement a regular place since his move from Monaco. The 22‑year‑old midfielder was linked with several European clubs over the summer, but no transfer materialised. Interest from clubs across Europe kept his name in circulation throughout the summer. With limited playing time, he may look for a new club in January, especially if West Ham believes his exit can fund other targets.

Edson Alvarez returned from a season‑long loan at Fenerbahçe still without a permanent deal. West Ham rejected four offers because none matched their valuation, yet his substantial wages and unclear role under Espirito Santo could prompt a reassessment when the window reopens. The defensive midfielder spent the previous season on loan in Turkey, but a permanent move could not be finalised.

Cornet’s departure and the club’s fiscal pressure

Maxwel Cornet has also failed to win a regular spot, prompting the Hammers to explore a permanent move that would lower the wage bill. Reducing his wages would ease the Hammers’ limited financial resources ahead of the January market.

Despite a sizeable influx from summer sales, most of that income has been earmarked for outstanding transfer fees and other obligations. With limited resources, West Ham are likely to prioritise player exits before committing to new signings in January. Balancing these constraints with the club’s promotion push will test Espirito Santo’s transfer strategy.

The contrast between promotion ambitions and tight finances forces Nuno Espírito Santo to balance squad depth with fiscal discipline. The January window will reveal whether the Hammers can align fiscal prudence with on‑field aspirations.
