Tottenham keep £65m Solanke in January despite doubts

Tottenham Hotspur have decided not to sell England striker Dominic Solanke in the January window, despite his disappointing form and fitness concerns, according to an exclusive Football Insider report. He arrived from Bournemouth for £65 million in 2024 and is under contract until 2030.

Why Spurs retain Solanke

Roberto De Zerbi insists Solanke can still play a key role in Tottenham’s attacking plans. The England international’s qualities, such as hold‑up play and link‑up ability, remain valued by the manager. Spurs hierarchy are reportedly reluctant to sanction a January departure.

Injury problems have prevented Solanke from finding consistency since his £65 million arrival from Bournemouth in 2024. He has scored only two goals in his opening ten appearances across all competitions this season. The limited return has intensified scrutiny of his goal‑scoring record.

Tottenham’s lack of depth at centre‑forward also colours the decision. Omar Marmoush offers an alternative but De Zerbi prefers to use him on the wing. The club therefore favours keeping Solanke as a central option.

Winter plans and competition

Spurs are expected to explore signing another striker during the January window rather than off‑loading Solanke. Any new arrival would be expected to compete with the Bournemouth‑born forward rather than replace him outright. The move would give De Zerbi more competition in the final third as the team struggles for consistent goals.

Solanke remains under contract until 2030, giving Tottenham considerable control over his future. The club believes he still has the potential to become a reliable north‑London goalscorer if he maintains fitness and receives a sustained run of games.

While doubts linger over his long‑term role, Tottenham’s current stance suggests they are prepared to give him more time instead of rushing a transfer decision. The January window will reveal whether the club adds a new striker to challenge Solanke for minutes.
