West Ham in advanced talks to appoint Scott Parker

West Ham United are in advanced talks to appoint former midfielder Scott Parker as their next manager. The 45‑year‑old made 129 appearances for the Hammers and has previously guided Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley into the Premier League.
Why West Ham seek Parker
The Hammers have raised around £150 million through sales, including Crysencio Summerville and James Ward‑Prowse, while spending on arrivals such as Arne Engels for a reported £22 million and Edvin Austbo for £12 million. Jarrod Bowen and Tomáš Souček remain in the squad, providing leadership alongside the new signings. Having played 13 Championship matches, West Ham sit eighth, six points behind leaders Middlesbrough and four points off second place.
A recent run of poor results saw the team concede first in four of their last six games and suffer home defeats to Southampton and West Bromwich Albion, with a decisive 3‑1 loss on Saturday. Fans turned on Nuno Espírito Santo, whose side managed only two wins in six matches before his departure, along with assistants Rui Pedro Silva and Rui Barbosa. Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will take charge for the upcoming match against Cardiff City.
The hierarchy view Parker as the figure who could rescue their promotion bid. Parker’s teams typically employ a disciplined 4‑2‑3‑1 or 4‑3‑3 with compact lines, an approach that could bring order to a side that has kept only three clean sheets and often lost shape after turnovers. In midfield, Tomáš Souček offers a reliable double‑pivot, Arne Engels can help move the ball forward and Jarrod Bowen provides pace in transition, fitting Parker’s preferred style.
If Parker can organise the midfield to protect the defence, settle a best eleven and deliver sharper starts, he could help West Ham close the gap to promotion. His appointment would make him the club’s fourth permanent manager since May 2024, following David Moyes, Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter.
