Wrexham's promotion push hampered by Smith's knee blow

Wrexham have lost forward Sam Smith to a significant knee injury, manager Phil Parkinson confirmed, meaning the club go into their Wednesday clash with Middlesbrough without another key attacker. Smith, who joined from Reading in January 2025, suffered the damage during the 1‑0 defeat at Sheffield United on Friday.
The 28‑year‑old will see a specialist later on Tuesday to assess the damage and determine how long he will be out. Parkinson said the knee swelled the next day and that surgery may be required, but the specialist’s evaluation on Tuesday will confirm the course of treatment.
Injury adds to mounting absences
Smith’s injury adds to a growing list of absences ahead of Wrexham’s Wednesday home game against Championship leaders Middlesbrough. Forwards Josh Windass and Nathan Broadhead remain sidelined, while Callum O’Hare is still a doubt after missing the loss at Bramall Lane.
Parkinson highlighted the chance for youngster Bailey Cadamarteri, a 21‑year‑old Jamaica international who joined from Sheffield Wednesday in January. He has yet to start a senior game for the Dragons. He has made five substitute appearances this season, all from the bench. The manager added that Cadamarteri is ready, chomping at the bit, and will receive more game time with Smith out.
