Vasco's striker hunt stalls as Igor Jesus' agent rules out 2027 move
Agent Jefferson Batista has ruled out any transfer of striker Igor Jesus to Vasco da Gama in 2027, confirming the Brazilian forward will remain in Europe for the foreseeable future.
Vasco are desperate for a replacement after goalkeeper Léo Jardim’s error cost them a defeat to Boca Juniors and a drop out of the Copa Sul‑Americana. Pedro Emanuel was blunt when speaking about Jardim’s mistake, and the club now faces a Conmebol sanction linked to Andrés Gómez, Adson and Sosa. The club’s need for firepower has therefore become acute.
Forest's market stance
Nottingham Forest have already turned down €40 million offers from Porto, Juventus and Tottenham in the last transfer window, underscoring the value placed on Jesus. The striker arrived from Botafogo Americana in June 2025 for an estimated €20 million plus performance bonuses.
Jefferson Batista reiterated the decision, saying there is “no possibility of a transfer to the Rio club in 2027”, and that the player’s future lies in Europe.
Jesus's European future
Since Oliver Glasner took over, Jesus has seen his minutes dwindle, scoring only one goal in six league appearances this season after a prolific debut year of 16 goals in 52 matches. He is keen to stay on the radar of Brazil’s national team, now coached by Carlo Ancelotti.
If Forest cannot guarantee regular play, the striker is expected to explore other European options, with any eventual exit likely to involve a sizeable negotiation.
Conmebol sanction context
Conmebol has warned of a punishment for Vasco over the involvement of Andrés Gómez, Adson and Sosa, adding further pressure on the club’s recruitment plans.
The agent’s dismissal of the move keeps Jesus in the European market, while Vasco must look elsewhere to fill the gap left by Jardim’s departure and the Copa exit.
