Jefferson Batista shuts down Vasco link as club battles relegation
Agent Jefferson Batista has ruled out any talks with Vasco da Gama about a 2027 move for striker Igor Jesus, while coach Pedro Emanuel confronts a relegation battle after recent defeats, including a 3‑1 loss to Boca Juniors in the Sul‑Americana cup.
Agent rules out Vasco link
Jefferson Batista told reporters that there have been no inquiries from Vasco nor any other Brazilian side about Igor Jesus. He said the striker’s priority is to remain in Europe, where clubs such as Juventus and Tottenham are watching after the player turned down offers of 40 million euros. In the 2026/27 campaign Igor Jesus has featured in six matches for Nottingham Forest, scoring once and providing no assists. The previous season he played 52 games, netted 16 goals and delivered five assists, amounting to 21 direct goal contributions.
Porto, Juventus and Tottenham are listed among the clubs reportedly interested, although any move would have to overcome the market valuation that saw Nottingham Forest reject bids close to 40 million euros, roughly R$ 226 million.
Vasco's relegation battle intensifies
Vasco da Gama’s recent form has worsened. The side lost 3‑1 to Boca Juniors in the Sul‑Americana semifinal at the Maracanã and fell 1‑0 to São Paulo in the Brazilian league. Their next fixture is against Corinthians on Saturday the 24th at 18:30 in São Januário, a match that could prove pivotal in the fight to avoid relegation.
Coach Pedro Emanuel was blunt when asked about goalkeeper Léo Jardim, saying the Brazilian’s error directly contributed to the Boca defeat. Emanuel’s comments underline the urgency of stabilising the defence as the club scrambles for points.
Conmebol has indicated a possible sanction against Vasco because of the involvement of Andrés Gómez, Adson and Sosa, a disciplinary issue that adds further pressure on the Rio de Janeiro club.
Without the reinforcement of Igor Jesus, the Carioca side remains in a delicate situation, turning its focus entirely to the relegation battle in the Campeonato Brasileiro. The club’s president Pedrinho will have to adjust his transfer plans accordingly.
