Twente revive romance with Drommel as keeper hunt intensifies

FC Twente have opened talks with 29‑year‑old goalkeeper Joël Drommel about a possible return to the club, a development reported by RTV Oost after transfer journalist Mounir Boualin disclosed the contact made today at 14:26 in the Eredivisie as the Dutch side seek a new first‑choice keeper.

FC Twente have been actively searching for a new first‑choice goalkeeper, and Drommel entered their radar because he is allowed to leave PSV. The 29‑year‑old is currently listed as free to depart the Eindhoven side.

The former Twente stopper spent the 2014‑2021 seasons at the club, playing under coach John van den Brom, who now manages the Tukkers. His previous spell makes a return a familiar option for both parties.

Twente’s scouting network also monitors French keeper Jeffrey de Lange of Olympique Marseille, although negotiations have yet to produce an agreement. The Tukkers have been unable to finalize a deal with the Frenchman so far.

The current goalkeeper group consists of veteran Lars Unnerstall, 36, Remko Pasveer, 42, and the younger Issam El Maach, 26, underscoring the club’s desire to inject youth into the position. Adding Drommel would provide a blend of experience and age.

To date, only initial contact between Drommel and the Tukkers has been confirmed, with no concrete terms disclosed. RTV Oost reported the development after transfer journalist Mounir Boualin broke the news.

If the move materialises, Drommel could return to his former home ground, while PSV would lose a goalkeeper who is free to exit. For Twente, securing Drommel would strengthen their goalkeeping options ahead of the new season.
