Tresoldi's penalty gives Club de Bruges the edge in Milan

In the thirtieth minute, Nicolo Tresoldi converts a penalty that gives the lead to Club Brugge against Inter Milan at the San Siro, as part of the second matchday of the Champions League.

A match laden with precedents

The Belgians come after a defeat against Aston Villa on the first matchday, while Inter lost its opener against Real Madrid (2-1). Both teams are therefore looking to pick up their first points.

Croatian coach Ivan Leko said his team knows the opponent well, describing Inter’s 3-5-2 system as “the best in Europe for five or six years” and stressing the need for courage and intelligence to counter this setup.

Official line-ups

Christian Chivu lines up his starting eleven: Martinez, Bisseck, Akanji, Bastoni, Dimarco, Zielinski, Calhanoglu, Barella, Diouf, Martinez and Thuram. For his part, Club Brugge starts with Sommer, Sabbe, Spileers, Mechele, Seys, Potts, Vetlesen, Vanaken, Forbs, Virgili and Tresoldi.

Carlos Forbs, who left injured at La Louvière (one‑four), still travelled to Milan; he took part in part of the training without feeling any major problem, according to Leko.

Match progression

After the penalty, Inter tried to respond: Thuram had an early chance, then Lautaro Martinez missed a shot on goalkeeper Sommer. A poorly dealt corner by Inter gave the Belgians another opportunity, but the Milanese defence pushed back the attempts.

Despite Inter’s apparent domination, Club Brugge held onto its lead, hoping to turn this early success into a positive result.
