Sommer says he loves Inter and faces the club at San Siro with Bruges

Tomorrow evening Yann Sommer will emerge from the tunnel of the San Siro to face Inter, the team he left last summer for Club Brugge. The event is charged with emotion because the Swiss goalkeeper has said he still loves the black‑and‑blue shirt and sees the return to Milan as a return home.

The memory of Milan and the new chapter in Bruges

Sommer said that “for me it will be special and exciting to face them, to come out of the tunnel and see the San Siro: it’s an image that I still have in mind”. After ending his contract with Inter, he signed with Club Brugge in the summer, with no regrets about the lack of extension. “We talked about it together and both the club and I decided that it was the right moment to part ways”, he added.

The goalkeeper emphasized that the period in Milan was “an extraordinary chapter of my career”, citing the night against Barcelona and the bus celebrations as unforgettable moments. Despite the disappointment of the missed Champions League finals, he said he is “trying not to have any regrets”.

Comments on the future and the successors

Sommer praised his successor at Inter, Josep Martinez, calling him “an excellent goalkeeper, with potential, and also a great guy”. He also promoted the young Pio Esposito, describing him as “humble, a great guy, with a lot of power and a great physique”.

Looking at Club Brugge, Sommer pointed to an emerging talent, stating that “he can become a great European striker, I say it 100%”. At 37, the goalkeeper is not yet thinking about retirement: “I feel good and I still have a huge motivation. As long as it stays that way, I will continue”.

Sommer continues to follow Inter from afar, still judging it as one of the best teams in Europe. “It’s more or less the same aggressive, European team. Inter has the quality to win the Champions”, he commented.

Despite his affection for Inter, the goalkeeper warned that tomorrow the feelings will have to be set aside: “Inter will always be home, for me you don’t play away”. He then addressed a message to the black‑and‑blue fans: “Thank you again for these three wonderful years. Mistakes, triumphs, unforgettable nights, I give everything. But, forgive me, now I defend Bruges and I want to win again at the San Siro”.
