Three new faces arrive as Solihull’s defensive reshuffle gathers pace

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

At Damson Park, the summer rebuild at Solihull Moors is gathering momentum. Three new players have arrived this week, taking the club’s total summer signings to nine.

Defender Jevon Mills, 22, returns to the National League side after a season-long loan in 2022-23. During that spell, he made nine National League appearances while on loan from Hull City. The Ireland Under-19 international has now joined permanently, adding defensive depth to a squad already reinforced with five defenders this summer.

Goalkeeper Nathaniel Ford, 21, arrives with National League experience from Rotherham United and Halifax. His first-team opportunities have been limited to National League Cup matches with the Shaymen, but his arrival provides competition in goal for Solihull.

Midfielder Rio Shipston, 21, joins from Sheffield Wednesday, where he made four Championship appearances last season as the Owls suffered relegation. Shipston also spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan at League of Ireland’s Cork City, making 20 Premier Division appearances.

The trio join midfielder Jamie Andrews and striker Ben Wodskou as part of Solihull’s ongoing summer rebuild. Mills, Ford and Shipston are the latest in a series of signings aimed at strengthening the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Mills is the fifth defender to join Solihull this summer, following Alex Whitmore, Junior Tiensia, Matty Carson and Justin Hanks. The club’s defensive recruitment reflects a clear strategy to reinforce the backline.

Ford’s career has been shaped by spells at Rotherham United and Halifax, with his most regular first-team football coming in cup competitions. His move to Solihull offers a fresh opportunity to establish himself in the National League.

Shipston’s Championship experience with Sheffield Wednesday, despite relegation, provides a potential tactical edge in midfield. His loan stint in Ireland added further match fitness and adaptability.

Solihull’s summer signings now total nine, with Mills, Ford and Shipston the latest to commit to Damson Park. The club’s recruitment drive continues as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
