Spanish footballer dies after brutal foul in match

The Spanish football professional Jesus de Miguel of CD Tenerife has died after a hard foul and a cardiac arrest.

"There are no comforting words, nothing can ease this immeasurable grief," the club said on Tuesday morning.

The 30‑year‑old striker suffered obvious head injuries on Monday in a violent collision with goalkeeper Jesus Owono of FC Andorra and curled up in pain.

On the way to the hospital, emergency personnel had to revive the player; he was breathing on his own but remained unconscious.

CD Tenerife announced on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, at 8:00 a.m. the tragic death of Jesús de Miguel Alameda.

The incident occurred in stoppage time, when de Miguel, at high speed just behind the halfway line, was fouled by the sprinting Andorra keeper; the referee immediately showed a red card.

The players of both teams were shaken by the sight of the injured player, and the referee halted the match at a 2‑2 scoreline.

Reactions of the clubs

CD Tenerife initially stated that de Miguel's condition was serious but stable.

The following morning, the club announced that his medical condition had deteriorated neurologically.

About four hours later, the club confirmed the player's death.

"We stand beside his grieving family, his relatives, all of Tenerife, who mourn this cruel loss today," the club said.

The family thanked for every support received and asked for the utmost respect for their privacy.

FC Andorra expressed its regret: "With broken hearts and deeply shaken, we extend our sincere condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel. Rest in peace."
