Spanish criticism and court hearing: Mbappé's double face in Paris

Kylian Mbappé spent September 30 in Paris, while he was injured, drawing strong criticism in the Spanish press after being spotted out in the evening with his partner Ester Exposito. Far from a simple pastime, he went to the premises of the General Inspection of the National Police (IGPN) to answer officials' questions, according to L’Equipe.

Reasons for the police investigation

The investigation concerns several financial largesses granted to the former police officer involved. A donation of 60 300 euros, paid in June 2023 from the World Cup bonuses in Qatar, has been identified. A month later, Sanhadji accompanied the player on a family trip to Cameroon, raising the question of a privately paid mission outside the official framework.

Other financial suspicions

The IGPN is also examining a 120 000 euro loan requested by the police officer under the pretext of false financial difficulties, as well as the clan covering personal expenses. Mbappé is not the only one being questioned: Franck Ribéry, comedian Jamel Debbouze, former president of the French Football Federation Noël Le Graët and his successor Philippe Diallo also appeared before the police.

Last Friday, Fayza Lamari, Mbappé's mother, appeared before the three investigating judges in Paris. Placed under the status of assisted witness, she escaped formal charges but evidence suggests her involvement in the facts.

She is accused of having solicited Sanhadji's intervention to obtain four visas for relatives. She was assisted by Maître Marie‑Alix Canu‑Bernard, who also represents her son in the case.

The justice system is thus looking into the services provided by the former police commander, indicted on September 16 for corruption, fraud and money laundering. Investigations continue to uncover the links between football personalities, the entertainment world and police authorities.
