Sjoeke Nüsken secures dramatic start to World Cup preparation
Start of World Cup preparation: The German women's national team won 4-2 against Australia. Sjoeke Nüsken scored in stoppage time to make the final score, while Melissa Kössler already in the 23rd minute scored her debut goal for the 1-0 lead. The match was characterised by a wild closing phase, in which the Germans repeatedly were lucky to prevent the equaliser.
After successful qualification, the DFB women start the World Cup preparation. Against Australia however they already showed first problems, which became clear as the match progressed.
Melissa Kössler put the Germans ahead with her debut goal in the 23rd minute. Only seven minutes later she increased it to 2-0. Shortly before the half‑time whistle Sam Kerr equalised for the Australians to 2-1.
Exciting closing phase decides
In the second half the DFB eleven wavered, but were repeatedly lucky not to concede an equaliser. Camilla Küver headed in the 83rd minute after a corner from Linda Dallmann to make it 3-1. In the second minute of stoppage time Holly McNamara reduced the deficit to 3-2, before Sjoeke Nüsken restored the final score to 4-2.
Celebration erupted when Sjoeke Nüsken put the final touch in the wild closing phase. Her goal sealed the victory and marked the start of the preparation.
