Santiago Giménez bids Milan farewell as Porto loan looms
Futbol Mexican striker Santiago Giménez bid farewell to AC Milan with an emotional Instagram post, while confirming his loan move to FC Porto, where he has already begun training. The message thanked the Rossoneri supporters and marked the end of an 18‑month spell that saw him make 37 appearances, before he embarks on a new chapter in Portuguese football.

El delantero mexicano posted on his Instagram account, writing, “Fue un sueño cumplido jugar para AC Milan y el haber compartido este tiempo con ustedes. Los llevaré siempre en mi corazón… Grazie per tutto, milanistas. ¡Forza Milan!” The caption was accompanied by the line “Santiago Giménez entrando de cambio con el Milán | MEXSPORT”, and the post carried the tag “Añadir como fuente preferida en Google”. In the message he recalled the moments spent at San Siro and thanked the fans for their support.
During his 18‑month tenure, Giménez featured in 37 matches for Milan, scoring seven goals and providing six assists. He started 19 times and came off the bench in 16 appearances, according to the club’s records.
The move to Milan was completed in February 2025 for a fee exceeding 30 million euros, after the Mexican forward impressed at Feyenoord with 65 goals, 14 assists in 105 Eredivisie games. Those figures formed part of the rationale for his arrival at the Italian side.
His spell also benefited from the backing of Zlatan Ibrahimović, who was part of Milan’s sporting structure at the time and publicly endorsed the young striker.
New chapter in Portugal
Porto introduced Giménez officially, and he immediately took part in training sessions with the Portuguese squad. Reflecting on his Italian experience, he told the club, “En el AC Milan no estaba al nivel que quería, pero fueron años de gran aprendizaje. Ahora combinaré toda esta experiencia.”
The Mexican arrives on loan with an option to buy, making Porto his fourth professional club after Cruz Azul, Feyenoord and Milan. The deal offers him the chance to compete for domestic and European objectives in the coming season.
