Juventus loan Jonathan David to Atlético Madrid, €25 million option
Juventus have sent Canadian striker Jonathan David on loan to Atlético Madrid for the 2026/27 season, the Spanish club announced on Tuesday (1st), with a purchase option that could rise to 25 million Euro (about R$ 150 million) and both clubs will share his wages.
Struggles at Juventus
At Juve the 26‑year‑old struggled to cement a place, scoring only eight goals in 47 appearances and providing five assists last season. After five prolific seasons at Lille, where he netted 109 times in 232 games, his form dipped following the free‑transfer move to Italy a year ago. The loan gives Juve a chance to offload a player who failed to meet expectations.
Atlético's expectations
Atlético (Am) view the loan as a key boost to their attack, pairing David with Argentine Julian Álvarez and Norwegian Alexander Sörloth under Diego Simeone. The Woltemade arrangement means the Spanish side will shoulder the majority of his salary while retaining a €25 million purchase option. Both clubs will split the remaining wages, mirroring the deal that previously saw Nico González join from Juve without a fee being exercised.

David remains Canada’s all‑time top scorer with 42 goals in 82 caps, three of which came at the home World Cup where the Canucks exited 0‑3 to Morocco in the round of 16. His international pedigree adds experience to an Atlético line‑up that has already added Lee Kang‑In, Morten Hjulmand, Cristian Romero and Alejandro Grimaldo this summer.
The loan follows a pattern of Juve‑to‑Am deals, the club previously borrowing Nico González on a similar Woltemade loan. That earlier agreement included a €32 million buy‑option which Atlético ultimately declined, saving several million euros compared with the current offer for David.
