Real Madrid seal five‑year Bellingham deal, thwart Man Utd

Jude Bellingham has agreed a new long‑term contract with Real Madrid, effectively ending the latest speculation that Manchester United could secure a mega‑money move for the 23‑year‑old midfielder. The deal, reported as a five‑year agreement, follows his initial £115million transfer from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023.

Why Madrid pursued the English star

Since arriving at the Bernabeu, Bellingham has recorded 49 goals and 36 assists in 150 appearances for Los Blancos, contributing to five major trophies including LaLiga and the Champions League. His performances have established him as one of Europe’s premier midfielders and a key figure in the club’s recent success.

Real Madrid have also been keen to match the salaries of peers such as Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior. Reports suggest the new contract could raise his earnings to beyond €30million per season, positioning him among the highest‑paid English players worldwide.

Contract specifics and financial terms

The extension pushes the expiry date from 2029 to 2031, securing the player’s future for at least five more seasons. Current figures indicate Bellingham already earns €20.8million gross annually, with the upcoming raise set to place him among the club’s top earners.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the verbal agreement on X, stating, “Jude Bellingham agrees to sign new long term contract at Real Madrid, verbal agreement in place, formal steps yet to happen but next in line after new deals for Arda Güler and Courtois.” He added that the agreement will be for five years.

Impact on Premier League interest

Manchester United and Chelsea have both been linked with potential moves for Bellingham, and are known admirers of the former Birmingham City player. Despite the interest, TEAMtalk has consistently reported that Bellingham has no plans to leave the Spanish capital.

With the contract now reportedly on the verge of announcement, all indications point to Bellingham remaining at Real Madrid for the foreseeable future, quelling any immediate transfer ambitions from Manchester United.
