Real Betis refuse Man Utd's January bid for Troy Parrott

Troy Parrott will remain at Real Betis after the Spanish club announced it WILL NOT sell the 24‑year‑old striker to Manchester United in the January transfer window. The decision was reported by journalist Christian Vaquero on X at 11:34 am on 16 October, quashing rumours of a mid‑season move.

Why United showed interest

Manchester United have been linked with a mid‑season move for Parrott, with scouts monitoring his progress this season. The club currently have Benjamin Sesko as the only senior number nine, and Parrott’s recent shin problem has left United short of a natural frontman. Manager Michael Carrick was reportedly keen to add a striker of Parrott’s profile before the winter window.

Parrott arrived at Betis from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2024 after a prolific spell in the Netherlands, where he scored 51 goals and provided 17 assists in 97 matches. His performance in Spain has been solid, contributing two goals and one assist in seven appearances across all competitions this campaign.

Betis’ rationale and future outlook

Real Betis have made it clear they have no intention of selling the Irish international in January, despite interest from English clubs. Vaquero wrote that “there’s nothing about Troy Parrott and Manchester United/Tottenham ahead of the winter transfer window despite the rumours” and added that English clubs may only be able to target him in the summer of 2027.

Parrott’s contract includes a €100 million release clause, underscoring Betis’ valuation of the player. Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Chris Waddle also warned against a premature return to Tottenham, suggesting a fee of €80 million (£67.5 million) would be unrealistic if United were to acquire him for a lower amount.

Having failed to establish himself at Tottenham, where he endured loan spells at Millwall, Ipswich Town, Milton Keynes Dons, Preston North End and Excelsior, Parrott’s resurgence at Betis could see him become a key figure for the Spanish side for the foreseeable future.
